EXCITING NEWS!

We’re thrilled to tell you that we’ve been awarded a grant from Tesco to restore a large greenhouse for the Wollescote project. The money raised through the 5p charge for plastic carrier bags goes to support community projects. Here’s the website if you want to find out more www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp ‘Growing in the Park’ at Lye and Wollescote is one of three projects being supported in the area.

We now have the chance to increase the amount we get.

Your votes are needed…..

The three local projects go to a public vote during the week of 27 February to 6 March when customers at various Tesco stores can vote for their favourite. The project with the most votes will be awarded £12,000, second will get £10,000 and the third will get £8,000.

So we know we will get at least £8,000 but we could achieve so much more if we win the public vote!

Please vote at one of the following:

Extra stores: Dudley – Stourbridge

Express stores: Highland Road Dudley, Kingswinford, Oldswinford, Hasbury Halesowen, Gornal, Pensnett or Bromley Lane.

As it is now, the greenhouse is unusable, a lot of the glass is missing or unsafe and the inside needs adapting to make it accessible.

We plan to use the restored greenhouse to grow plants for sale (the project funds all its own equipment and materials) and it will also be used as a place to run courses, workshops and events.
This is the sort of thing we plan to do. Having the greenhouse will open up so many more possibilities!

For the last two years the Wollescote gardeners have cared for the garden at the park while also looking after their own and each others’ wellbeing. Last year the group impressed visitors with their ornamental kitchen border. Their contribution was recognised when the group won awards from Stourbridge in Bloom and the Greenspaces Volunteer Awards.
