Free Signup Session 2/9/17

With our most recent Jolly Joggers group coming to an end, we are already setting plans in motion to get the next group up and running (pun intended). 

Come along to our free signup session on Saturday the 2nd of September 2017, West Park, Wolverhampton, meeting at the cafe by the bandstand 10:15am.

At the signup session you will get the chance to meet our friendly qualified run leaders, discuss the Jolly Joggers programme, meet other people joining Jolly Joggers and you will also get to see the route in the park you will be jogging in each week.

There will be free coffee/tea, biscuits and maybe even cake (most likely there will be cake) at the signup session. If you are still interested in joining up at the end, all you need to do is fill in a short registration form and then you are free to start the following week.  

Who are the Jolly Joggers?

Jolly Joggers are a beginners running (jogging) group. We are part of Dudley Mind’s Get Set to Go programme which aims to get more people active to improve their mental health see for more information.

We are a friendly, welcoming, supportive group for anyone who is struggling with their mental health right now or in the past including stress, low mood, anxiety or depression or another mental health problem. Along with anyone who wants to improve their mental wellbeing through running/jogging.

Over 12 weeks we build up your jogging and running from a walk (no previous experience necessary) and celebrate week 12 by joining Wolverhampton parkrun which is a weekly 5k (3.1 miles) run around West Park.

At the end of the session Jolly Joggers past and present join for tea in the Café (optional) it is a great way to get to know new people and to make new friends. Throughout the term we take part in a range of activities; past activities have included: Time to Talk Day, Easter Egg Hunt, Treasure Hunt, Mental Health Awareness Week, Halloween themed activities and World Mental Health Day.

We are led by a small team of volunteers from Dudley Mind who are qualified Leadership In Running Fitness coaches. The sessions are insured and risk assessed and open to people 18+

Dudley Mind – Self Management Programme

What are Self Management Programmes?

Self management programmes (SMPs) are available for adults living with a long-term health condition, anxiety and/or depression, or for those in a caring role. SMPs aim to improve your quality of life by giving you confidence, skills and information to help manage your long-term condition or caring role better on a daily basis.

The programmes are FREE and run for 2.5 hours, once a week for six weeks.

Dudley Mind’s Self Management Programmes run all year round at The Carlisle Centre, Stourbridge, DY8 1SP. Each course takes place once a week, for 6 weeks and is tutored by trained volunteers who themselves are living with a long term health condition.

Topics include:

  • Getting a good nights sleep
  • Coping with difficult emotions/depression
  • Relaxation techniques and exercise
  • Healthy eating
  • Communicating with friends and family and health professionals
  • Dealing with pain and extreme tiredness

By taking part in a programme you will:

  • Learn new skills to manage your health condition
  • Develop confidence in the daily management of your specific condition
  • Meet others and share similar experiences
  • Learn how to develop more effective relationships with healthcare professionals
