Dudley Mind is recruiting a Horticulture Project Assistant for their project at the walled garden in Wollescote Park, Stourbridge.
We support adults with or at risk of poor mental health to volunteer their time in looking after and developing the site, which is open to the public. Volunteers share and learn new skills in horticulture and related activities, including the renovation of two glasshouses.
The project generates its own income for tools, materials, plants, one off projects. Producing plants for sale is an important part of the project’s work.
The Horticulture Project Assistant is a paid role to assist the Horticulture Project Manager on site for two mornings per week, Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:15 to 13:15. Additional time of 2hrs per month is included to allow for admin, supervision and training.
Duties include working alongside and supervising the volunteers in gardening and practical activities, being alert to safety issues; being a ‘listening ear’ to the volunteers; deputising in the manager’s absence.
The post would suit someone
- with work experience in mental health who has an aptitude for practical activities
- or an experienced gardener with good people skills and mental health awareness
