Turning Dudley Green for Blue Monday

Category: News & Written by Simon On January-07-2020 11:15:03

The third Monday of January, also known as Blue Monday, is said to be the most depressing day of the year. This year, we are supporting Dudley MBC’s efforts in Turning Dudley Green for Blue Monday on 20th January 2020. Pure Gyms and local Jobcentre’s will also be turning Green for Blue Monday.

Why Green? You may have seen Green ribbons such as the one below before as a symbol of mental health awareness. Taking this a step further we want to make not just the green ribbon a symbol of mental health awareness but also the colour itself. So wherever you see green, you will also know that it is in support of mental health awareness.

Turning Dudley Green on Blue Monday is all about raising awareness of mental health and lessening the stigma surrounding it.  Our hopes are to encourage as many people as possible to participate and raise as much awareness of mental health as possible.

So, what can you do to support Turning Dudley Green for Blue Monday? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Encourage staff to wear green clothing

  • Project Green Lights - Light up a specific part of your building or a landmark with green lights, we will be lighting up the Council House and Dudley Town Centre

  • Change your logo or social media channels to incorporate green or a green ribbon

  • Take photos and film your activity (consent permitting).  We will be producing a press release

  • Host a workplace event, start conversations and check in on your colleagues.  We will be holding staff event

Whatever you do to participate in Turning Dudley Green for Blue Monday will help to raise much needed awareness of mental health and go a long way in lessening the stigma. Let us know what you are doing on the day and be sure to tag us in any of your social media posts on twitter using @DudleyMind1. Some suggested hashtags for twitter to help spread the word and raise even more awareness are #BlueMondayGreen #SeeingGreen

You can also tag in Dudley Council and the local Jobcentre’s using @DWorkplaces and @dudleymbc as well as Dudley & Walsall Mental Health Trust @DWMHT and Dudley CCG @DudleyCCG
