Firstly, you will notice that the surgeries have now changed to a telephone number as with the coronavirus it is not possible to meet face to face at the current time.

This will be a very anxious time for many of you as the thought of being unable to move freely about can be frightening especially if you don’t have a large support network of friends and family.  Whilst I cannot feel how you do individually, I can empathise as someone who lives on their own with family living a distance away.  It is very important in these difficult times that we are able to support each other as much as possible.

What will Dudley Mind be doing to support you?

At the current time most groups and projects are still able to operate albeit under more restrictive and stringent conditions.  I would urge you all to follow whatever staff ask you to do in order to ensure your health and wellbeing as far as we are able as well as the staff team supporting you.

For groups meeting in other premises then it is only a matter of time before we are told these are not available. This has already happened in the case of Henry Court as some of you are aware.

As the government ramps up the restrictions on us all we will be putting place support in the following ways:

  • The Dudley Mind telephone number of 01384 442938 will still be available for you to ring if you feel you need to speak with someone for support.

  • For peer mentoring groups there will be an opportunity to ‘speak’ to one another through the facility of Yammer. Tim and myself will be joining in this as well. This will be explained to you.

  • For Growing in The Park there will also be the opportunity to use Yammer if you have access.

Jill, Liz and I will be joining in this as well.

  • Staff will be keeping in touch through regular telephone contact so make sure we have your latest telephone number/s.

  • Black Country Radio have established a community hotline for anyone who is self-isolating and needs support on 01384 465375

It is very important that you are able to find ways to manage your mental health during this time as this site will impact on your physical health. Try to keep calm as the situation will eventually pass.  Utilise any breathing and relaxation exercises you can.  Think of things you enjoy and places you have been that you can recall and revisit in your mind.

 It is important to try and keep to a routine if you are unable to leave your home.  It is very easy to lose track of dates and times. 

  • It is also easy to stop looking after ourselves so shower or bathe as you would if you were going out. Whilst this might seem a chore it will help you to feel better.

  • Keep to your usual eating pattern as far as possible so eat regularly and as healthily as you can.

  • Make sure you are hydrated so drink plenty of water.

  • Keep in touch with people in as many different ways as you can.

  • If you are lucky enough to have a garden if the weather is good spend some time outside. This will help you to feel better as we know the fresh air has a positive effect on our mental health.

  • If you are able to undertake some form of exercise then this will also help to release those feel good endorphins.

  • Exercise your mind, read a book, do a wordsearch or crossword, try sudoku, draw, listen to music, write,

  • Go to bed and get up at your usual time.

Above all don’t be afraid to ask for support.  Everyone will need this in the weeks ahead.
